As a guest of a talk show, minister of culture made several vulgar references about Serbian historiography and its institutes. Furthermore, he specifically targeted our talented associate dr Rade Ristaniovic, a leading expert i wartime Belgrade history and a founder of Serbian Urban Association.. minister Selakovic alleged that dr Ristanovic is purposefully hiding the fact that Germans have purposefully bombed National Library of Serbia on April 21, 1941.
However, it is a common knowledge that at that time aerial bombing technology was so underdeveloped that such precision was virtually impossible. Hence, either the minister does not know basic facts about one of the most traumatic days in our history, or he is misusing them for creation of some self-serving political narratives based on myths. Either way, we are giving full support to our colleague Rade, not only because he was right, but also because we feel that such pressure of the executive branch of government is blatant attack on intellectual independence and freedom of research,
We use this opportunity to express our full support to our colleague Rade and to extend his written response.
